• Here’s my predicament. I created a page in the past for my website with a simple url subdirectory (example.com/page). I then deleted that page, but I want to use the same subdirectory (example.com/page) for a new page I created. However, it will not let me use the url. Instead, it changes the url to example.com/page-2. How do I free up example.com/page, so I can reuse it for a new page? Thank you for your help! and sorry for my ignorance!

  • The page might be there in your trash. Kindly delete it from there too. After that you can use it.

I checked, but unfortunately, it is not in the trash. I guess I should clarify one thing. We BELIEVE that the page was created in the past and deleted. Because we cannot use the url subdirectory and there are no current pages or posts that are using it and when I go to the url is simply gives me a 404 error. I don’t know why else it would not let me use the subdir. If I ftp in, is there a way I can see if the url subdir is being used? Again, sorry for my ignorance haha

might be there would be any custom post type using that url slug.

What are you referring to by custom post type? If you’re talking about wordpress posts, then no, I couldn’t find any and why wouldn’t they appear when I went to the url instead of a 404?
