   If I design a wp theme and give it to the world, will all those links back to my site help my ranking? To be blunt are there marketing benefits to donating your art? Besides personal satisfaction, a happy world, peace and love and all that other good sttuf?

   I have never seen a bad ranking WordPress Author. With people linking to there domain by having the Authors link at the bottom of each template this would have to give you more external links.

   Not 100% sure on my answer, but it what I have noticed. You could try asking in the Google Webmasters Forum as a ranking question.

   Good luck with it all, I need a Tropical Fish template and there are no good ones to pick from and only a couple to choose from. This might be a market for you.

   Funny you mention tropical fish, I'm working on a project for a local aquarium. Thank you for your feedback. I suspect that it can only help. I'm reading about "link Blogging" and I'm not sure I like what I'm finding out. About writing many times and for months to get a link back to your site. I have things to do places to go, clients to invoice...
