Hey WordPressers, i'm new to wp and have been advised that Thesis is a good framework to use. If i was to purchase this framework could i then use a free, non-Thesis theme/skin with the Thesis framework?

Thesis is a theme - It is called a framework because they have designed it to be easy to customize and added features like a dashboard menu to help you customize the theme to suit your needs.
You can use Thesis child themes which have been developed based on Thesis but you can't use a different free theme with because it wouldn't have been designed the same way.
