Free Edition Reduction (3 posts)

We are finding the sandbox area of the plugin is so suitable for developers that it hardly ever goes down well with casual WordPress users.

So we have decided to improve the Easy CSV Importer screen and remove the sandbox area. So please keep a copy of your existing free edition if you like it the way it is or consider upgraded to our paid service which will support the plugin.

We will be adding an Advanced CSV Importer screen to the paid edition of the plugin also. It will work in much the same way as the current ECI screen does. ECI will suit the average project, the quick job that most users need done within a day. The ACI will appeal to those who need to use an importer more than once, need a little more edge but still don't need the full on developer sandbox we provided right now.

It is going to be interesting but the important thing is the warning here. Updating from current free editions to the free edition that no longer has the sandbox area will surprise a lot of users. There will be a sudden reduction in pages on the plugin admin and files in the package.

Then for pros there is the rest of the plugin with endless features, far more coming and all laid out for quick access. On the paid edition.

    We're almost there folks!

Still toying with this idea. Hard one.

A lot of users find the sandbox area too complex. But they warm up to it and eventually say...wow. What we need to do is push them through the Quick Start screen, let them warm up that way. Then introduce them to a sandbox approach.

Do we remove the sandbox area or just hide and offer option to display it?

Lets not make any sudden decisions on this.

Well around 2 months after making the said change. It seems to have gone down well with users.

A case of less is more I think and that is something well learned. This will be kept in mind as we create an entire range of plugins.

    Small steps from here on!
