    Hi,

    I've never encountered this problem before, and I've provided some images below so you can see the problem.

    Basically, last night, my blog started having issues with the formatting. On the main blog page: http://sashahalima.com/blog/ two of my three columns, which contain my widgets, shot themselves down to the bottom of the screen.

    Like this, please see my Picasa screen shot:
    (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/I_HW-PDRyiN_Zk-_v0vXCA?authkey=Gv1sRgCPyL0PGc1t6UhgE&feat=directlink)

    <img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_2btO2nKpQl4/SuIOqkl_7jI/AAAAAAAACJY/7xfKf8I_07U/s800/wp_issue.jpg" />

    The thing is, if you go to an individual post, for example, like this one: http://sashahalima.com/blog/?p=5340

    The blog looks the way it is supposed too and the way it did yesterday, before this entire thing happened.

    Like this, please see my other Picasa screen shot (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/vfOaHO2-7ruZ-Q95bt-JIg?authkey=Gv1sRgCPyL0PGc1t6UhgE&feat=directlink):

    <img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_2btO2nKpQl4/SuIOp0-I_PI/AAAAAAAACJU/dRWJLupfHuM/s800/wp_normal.jpg" />

    Some basic information.

    * I am running WordPress 2.8.4
    * I have about 12 plug-ins installed. And they are 'normal' everyday plug-ins, like All in one SEO Pack etc.,
    * I do not host any of my images, in order to keep my sever clean. I put them all on Google's Picasa and link back.
    * I don't have any extra files from strange places on my blog. I have one mp3 I made eons ago on it, and a few (like 4) Adobe .pdf files I uploaded and made myself.
    * My widgets are only -- linked out to other places: Link Share or Commission Junction, Google Connect, Twitter Counter, Amazon affiliates etc. Nothing with special scripts or something that 'reads' or requires anything 'extra.'
    * As for my template, I got it online, I edited the images and I installed it. I did not tamper with the original code whatsoever.
    * My blog is 6 months old this month (October 2009).
    * I have not changed my template in 4 months, nor have I installed any new plugins over the past month.

    If you have seen this issue before, have any ideas/suggestions or can offer any help at all -- I would GREATLY appreciate it.

    You are also welcome to email me at LittlePinkBookPR@gmail.com if you can offer any insight into my issue.

    I'm completely floored and confused. I don't know what the problem could be. :(

    Please help :)

    Thank you,

    Sasha

  2. Are you cutting and pasting from Word into posts? If so, cut and paste from NotePad instead. Word throws in all sorts of formatting garbage that skews display. If not, you have lots of validation errors in your code that are throwing the display.

    Hi,

    I don't copy and paste from Word. Only sometimes, but when when I do, I go into the "html" setting, rather than the "visual." Therefore, all that is copied and pasted is the text.

    Does it sound like something else maybe?

    I'll check out the validation errors link you sent me to see if maybe I can find the solution there.

    Thanks!

    Sasha

    By the way, how do I fix those validation errors?

    Your theme looks like a modified version of "Coffee Desk" (nicely done, BTW) ...

    ... it looks like <?php get_sidebar(); ?> may be inside your <div id="content"> section in your index.php file.

    Compare your single.php file with your index.php file and try to match the placement of the <?php get_* ?> functions in your (working) single.php template, see if that helps.

    PS: Correcting validation errors may be a catch-22 in this case ...

    Hi Cais!

    Yes, my theme is a modified version of "Coffee Desk" -- I took the original images into Photoshop and made them "Pink Book" like :) Thank you!

    I just looked through the posts and my <?php get_sidebar(); ?> was outside of the <div id="content"> in my index.php file at the very bottom of the code.

    In the single.php file, <?php get_sidebar(); ?> was also outside, but at the top.

    Does that make a difference? Is there something that looks different or out of sync to you?

    I copied and pasted by codes below -- what do you think?

    Index.php---->

  7. Work with Cais on this one; he obviously knows the theme you're working with and can get you fixed up....

    Thanks @songdogtech, I recognized the theme from the general genre of desk themes, which my DMM theme falls under.

    @sashahalima - when posting code try to remember to use the backtick (`) located (usually) on the same key as the tilde (~) character. Once at the beginning, once at the end ... cutting and pasting can have unexpected results ;)

    ... I read your OP and did not think you had modified your index.php file, I was reviewing your site with Firefox / Firebug and it just looked like the get_sidebar() call may have been put above the last </div>. Your cut and paste shows otherwise.

    Although I have not really tested the 'Coffee Desk' theme itself, I do believe it is fairly well done and would not expect anything to "break" as you are seeing. Which leads me to content either in a post or sidebar item as a potential for causing this issue.

    Have you tried disabling your widgets/plugins to see if that will correct the problem? If it does, then re-activate them one at a time until the problem re-occurs. This may help point to the issue at hand.

    Hi Cais,

    Thanks for the information. I'll try it and let you know. I just put my blog to backup (just in case something is really wrong). So that'll take a few hours.

    So I'll try this as soon as it's over, if not tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens when I do that.

    What type of content in a post could skew your blog in such a way?

    Thanks,

    Sasha

    As @songdogtech noted, there are a great deal of validation errors currently on your site. Most tend to be "content" related, especially images or videos not hosted on the blog site itself.

    Any number of validation errors can break a theme, sometimes to the point of what you are seeing.

    Hi Cais,

    I don't know what happened...but my blog is back to normal again!!!

    I don't know how, I don't know why or what -- but regardless, thank you so much for all of your help!!!

    Hopefully this doesn't happen again, and I'll be extra careful about copying and pasting from Word too, just as @songdogtech suggested!

    But on a side note, is there anything I should be aware of that could cause your blog to go askew the way mine did?

    I'd really like to be more alert and aware than before, just in case, this problem IS NOT solved and just seems that way for now...

    Thanks,

    Sasha

    Great to see your blog is back to "normal".

    What caused the problem? I really couldn't say since it seems to have auto-magic-ally fixed itself.

    Although something must have changed somewhere. If you were experiencing issues for just the one day, then look at items (plugins, widgets, etc.) that are date related on your blog.
