Format date correctly from custom meta box

    Hi

    I am having a problem formatting the date correctly when pulling a date in from a custom meta box.

    $display_date1 appears with correct date in the wrong format (12-31-2011)
    but $display_date2 appears correct format with wrong date (01 January, 1970 )

    I want the format to be 01 January, 1970 but with the correct date – here is my code. Does anyone know where I’m going wrong?
