Forced upgrade only gives me profile and tool tabs (2 posts)

I upgraded my site to 2.9.1 automatically (and yes, I didn't back up my files, but I've already beaten myself for this) and I got an error when I signed in that said that I did not have the authorization to access that page, ie. the Dashboard.

So I found a code that would force upgrade my wordpress program however it was never 100% guaranteed. That code got me past the error mentioned before, however my dashboard is not complete. It shows everything in the center panel (posts, comments, incoming links, etc.) but the left panel with my tabs only shows my profile and my tools.

I also tried to update it again by typing in wp-admin/update.php but it said that it was already completely updated.

Does anyone have any idea of what could be the problem. I'm hoping that the solution is simple.

    Thank you so much.

Ps. I seem to have a lot of copies of files in my FTP server that ends in .bak . I'm not sure what they mean and if they relate at all to this problem.

If you can go to your Profile page, does your user have the 'Administrator' role?

If you can't do the automatic upgrade again, might consider following the Upgrading WordPress instructions.
