    / = rwxrw-rw-

    /.htaccess = rw-rw-rw-

    /wp-admin = rwxr--r--

    /wp-includes = rwxr--r--

    /wp-content = rwxrwxrw-

    /wp-content/themes = rwxrwxrw-

    /wp-content/plugins = rwxrw-rw-

Is this file permission scheme ok for installing and running wordpress smoothly?

All your folders should be 755 and all your files 644. Don't leave ANYTHING 777 on the server.

If you make wp-content 755 then how people can upload their images while posting? shouldnt it be 766?

Uh.... I NEVER allow "people" to upload ANYTHING to my server accounts.

So I really can't advise you. Perhaps someone else will be able to help you with this.

well, /wp-content and /wp-plugins folder must be 766. because some plugin require their root directory writable. and if you want theme edit, then /wp-themes must be writable, ie 766

This thread here with some of Podz's replies might help. =)

    Also his post here:

I think he had also mentioned in another post as well, that in some cases, some people might need certain directories 777 to work for them.. :/ Not positive though.. I'm going to try and find that thread once..
