Footnotes without Markdown? (8 posts)

    I'd like to implement some code to make it easy to have footnotes in WP blog posts. Ideally they would be numbered automatically, formatted properly, and have links back to the footnote in the text. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I would like this to use some unique tag instead of Markdown. Maybe <footnote></footnote>.

    Can be done with CSS, though it is not completely automatic. I have extra quicktags to put the markup in, so it's easy.
    CSS:
    .footnote {
    font-size: .9em;
    border-top: 1px solid #a9a9a9;
    line-height: 150%;
    margin-bottom: 15px;
    }

    At the end of the post:
    <div class="footnote">1My footnote</div>

    If you don't mind me asking, why not use Textile or Markdown to do this?

    IanD: Thanks for the CSS.

    brainwidth: Textile seems to screw up regular HTML that I use. I mostly post with ecto.

    I just found this, which looks really nice:

    Don't know of any WP implementation yet, however, but it would be nice to have!

    In this thread there is an enhanced version of the quicktags.js for download. It works perfectly :)

    Just thought I'd add my solution to this thread as well.
