I have two sites both with issues with the footer in the theme where content is appearing and yet there are no options to include content in the footer areas. The two sites are:
thecustomersshoes.com and ianhigginson.co.uk
Any ideas where I can look. We haven't added ny new plugins recently to either site.

Look for div id footer navigation. It seems like that you are including your navigation menu inside your footer. Did you update your theme? Look under widgets and see if you see something like footer navigation and take it out. Otherwise get rid of the code.
