    I can't seem to change my font colour on my website http://www.ollivierstrategies.com. Can anyone help me out?

    Secondly I need to change my menu bar colour to white, I've tried changing my CSS but when I edit the css style nothing happens.

    I'm new to CSS so I may just be completely inept. Thanks.

    Does your theme come with a "Custom CSS" part of the dashboard?

    No, I went into the editor in the appearance menu.

    You can get a Custom CSS Manager section of the dashboard with this plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-css-manager-plugin/ and put your CSS within that section of the dashboard.

    Your CSS is more likely to work there.

    At the risk of sounding too needy, how do I change my menu background colour and font colour?

    As I mentioned earlier, I have no experience writing code.

    well in the editor I found this block of code in the visual editor style sheet.

    .mceContentBody blockquote {
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 5px 0 1em 0;
    border-color: #ccc;
    color: #888;
    border-left: 10px solid #ccc;
    padding-left: 12px;
    }
    I changed the color: #888 and nothing happened.

    I'm guessing I need to change a different line

    You didn't specify what you're trying to style here.

    I want to change my menu bar colour, my menu font colour, and my font colour in my page posts. I can get the proper colour codes I just don't know which css line to alter.

    CSS targets HTML elements.

    If you want to target the blockquote element you refer to the "blockquote" element.

    If you want to target paragraph elements you refer to the "p" element.

    I just don't know which css line to alter.

    You can go down that route if you really want to but people here are less willing to give bad advice so you're less likely to receive support.

    The same as before:
    - Edit the theme's files.
    - Use a Custom CSS plugin.
    - Use a Child Theme.

    How do I change the theme's files?

    I'd recommend trying a child theme before you change the theme files themselves. If you edit the theme files yourself, then any future updates of the theme will wipe out your changes and restore your site to default settings. However, if you use a child theme, you can maintain your edits separately and update the original whenever you need to. It's the same amount of work, but much more stable.
