   I just downloaded WordPress and after my mac unzipped the file it seems to have just created a folder with a bunch of files in it...that don't seem to run as any kind of application...I am totally at a loss!! Any help is greatly appreciate!!

   Oh, boy. You may be in for a surprise. WordPress is not an executable in any sense of the word. It is a web based application. It requires a "server" environment with specific applications in order to run.
