I thought this plugin would be perfect. It never seems to save my changes when editing the caption or alt description but the worst part is how it keeps resizing my graphics. When I upload them and insert the image to the widget (at full size) it tries to scale or crop one of the dimensions. I even tried creating a custom img style in css to the full width but then it just scaled the thumbnail size. I just don't have time to play with it more.

    Too bad...

    Hi Rwilki,

I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience with this. I have worked extremely hard on this and since the introduction of required comments with ratings I have seen almost entirely 5 star ratings. Is this rating really merited? It seems kind of harsh. (see http://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/image-widget/) Given that I do this as a loving contribution with no financial support, it really saddens me when I get a low rating - especially one this low.

Is there something specific you would suggest? I read your comments but I'm not entirely sure what the context is of your usage and why it's not working for you.

    Thanks

I'm sorry Peter, I'm just frustrated by the image sizing aspects of the plugin. My theme is responsive and I did read a few other posts where people were having some trouble with that aspect. Your plugin seems fast, efficient, and very easy to use. I'd gladly change my rating. When I have time I'll read more about some possible fixes. But, what's happening is that when I add an image, it's not keeping the images' true/actual image size. If I delete the dimension settings in your widget, it scales it down to a tiny thumbnail. Then, when I enter the proper width dimension, it does not scale the height appropriately.

I'm sure it's something with my theme's image sizing as a responsive theme. As I said, I even played around with the css on my theme to get around this but it didn't work form.

Thanks for your reply, it actually means a lot.

    Thanks @rwilki.

So I just tried something on a vanilla install of WordPress with the twentytwelve theme and no other plugins. I uploaded a huge photo. Then selected Size = "Custom" and hit save. It preserved the proportions exactly (3220 x 2147). I'm sure I could write some js that makes that responsive. Eventually we will update the plugin to better support responsive. But it's definitely not scaling the image or doing any funny business. So I guess my question is, is this really a problem with the plugin or with the theme?

    Cheers!

FYI, it looks like someone in the community figured out a great temporary fix:
