Some of the major reason we use a "design" is to give consistancy and readility to a project. Most of the rules for designing in print should also apply to the web.
Fluid columns are fine but how big do you want to go? What is the next banner is 1000px instead of 710px? It is not just a resolution problem. Some folks have several windows open and may prefer your site smaller.
I would decide on a max size and min size for the fluid column. Then I would resize any banner, or utube film that threatened my design.
Issues: photo under God Sent Us a Savior is forcing your column to add 150+ pixels in width; your copyright block is 250+ pixels to wide. All this is adding 400 pixels of width to your site. Fix these 2 issues and the center column will be back to a true fluid width.
BTW, when you solve your design issue, you might want to take care of site errors that show up here, http://validator.w3.org/
