Flash Image Uploader Not Functional (13 posts)

I've read a number of posts with similar issues to mine to see if there were some fixes that would apply to me as well, but no luck.

The image uploader displays "select images to upload", but the button that is displayed is the grayed-out "cancel upload" button. ???

    Help!

    Cheers,
    John

Have you tried any other browsers?

Yes. FF 3.6.3 and Safari 4.0.5 (OS X.6.3)

    Thanks.

Thanks, I had already read through that. Tried everything that looked like it might help, including the .htaccess entry.

Any other ideas? Client is on me about figuring this out, and I can't find any help.

    Cheers.

Discovered that the uploads directory was owned by "apache", so went in via SSH to change the owner and group hoping that would fix, but still no luck.

    Help! Thanks!

Contact your hosting provider and ask them to set the owner to your user.

Could you be more specific as to which directory or files I should be looking at? I can SSH in as ROOT and make the changes, just want to know specifically what should be changed. Any recommendation on permissions are welcome as well (666? 755? etc.)

    Cheers.

EDIT: To be clear, I was able to change the owner of the UPLOADS directory to my user. When I said "no luck" I was referring to the fact that the Flash Uploader was still not working. Thanks again.

Specifically, all WordPress directories should be owned by the user that the account runs under. If that user is ROOT, then ROOT should be the owner (which is not entirely safe, but it'll work).

Let me thank you for your attention to this point. It's greatly appreciated.

After recursively changing ownership of all files and directories to my user and group, still no success with the uploader. I am baffled and frustrated...

I can only imagine at this stage that perhaps I should look at replacing a few files? Or if it's possible to know which files are needed specifically for the Flash uploader to work, what the RWX permissions need to be? I've had a couple of plugins report over the past couple of days that their directories weren't writeable, so I think the install from MediaTemple may have some restrictive permissions on directories by default.

Again, and further insight is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

Yeah, I guess we're down to replacing files now.

Download WordPress again and upload new copies of the /wp-admin/ and /wp-includes/ directories. When you're done, all directories should be 755 and all files should be 644. If you need them to be writeable, they should be 777 and 666.

Thanks much. I'll try that this evening and report back.

If you're still interested, I was never able to get this fixed.

    Most Bizzare Problem Ever.

    Any other ideas?
