[NSFW] Firefox Problems - Half of my Posts Not Showing (25 posts)

I don't ever use Firefox for its extreme user-not-friendliness, ugliness and I simply don't have time to wait 15 minutes till it decides to load and cripple all computer’s resources. But anyway...

Someone alerted me that many posts of my popular blog are not showing at all in Firefox. I got on a computer that has it installed, launched it, went to get supper and came back - loaded in the meantime. And sure enough - half the posts not showing at all. When I go to the RSS feed, I can see them there, but when I click any of them, all I get is an empty page. Pure white page and message "Done" bottom left as though it's done loading.

What's up with that? Anyone knows? Does Firefox randomly filter posts it deems not cool? Why some posts show, some don't? What can a guy do to make all of his blog appear in Firefox?

    lol....

Well you've just offended at least half the web developers here with that post....

If you think the problem is with Firefox, good luck...

If you'd like to link to your site, i'll be happy to test it...

p.s. I use Firefox on a celeron and athlon PC (old system), with no problems at all. If you have a problem with Firefox then you (imo) don't know what you're talking about... but being a smiley/nice kinda person .... i'd like to help anyway... ;)

[NSFW] WARNING - Graphic Content Inside

Please don't take the warning lightly. It's a 200k+ uniques a month blog, but it depicts real life events as they happen. Guaranteed to offend and upset majority of people. Even if you think you can handle it, you most likely can't.

However first page is safe, which is what is linked. Sidebar on the right contains list of latest posts. The latest one displayed there is weeks old. I post on it almost daily.

You can try RSS feed to see that there truly are additional posts, or open the blog in IE to see what the blog should look like.

If you can prove me wrong, I'd be most pleased. I'll stick around for another 45 minutes till it laods up. But hey... you never know. Maybe it's me who's doing something wrong, which wouldn't surprise me as that Firefox makes no damn sense.

I do appreciate your time either way :)

Ok well take this link for example.
    [NSFW] http://www.bestgore.com/stoning/honor-killing-video-dua-khalil-aswad-stoned-death-iraq/

I cannot open that in either FF or IE...

I tried another link and eventually got it up in IE....

There's something in your pages causing the problem, it's not the browser... that's for sure... I'm on 20mb cable here and it's hit or miss whether i get a page up or not in IE...

I'd say you need to clean and optmise, or re-write whatever scripts you have running and/or plugins....

P.S. I'm in the UK here, so i'm off to sleep shortly, so don't be surprised if i don't answer your next reply instantly..

    ;)

EDIT: quick addition, run your site through..
    http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/

Load times come up quite poor... 71.80 seconds for a 56k connection..., 18.07 seconds for a 1.4mb connection....

Thanks a lot for your response and good night (if you’re in bed). That link does work in IE. No problemo whatsoever. Everything works fine in IE, I use it all the time, I know my site. And it worked on v.7 and works with v.8 which I recently upgraded to.

I know some pages load slower - they are the ones with 200+ comments. It takes a while to load all this data from the database. Better theme would speed it up a little, but not for much. It's still loads of data to pull from the database to display. And then there are posts with 500+ comments, such as the notorious Dnepropetrovsk maniacs video (don't click unless you hate yourself beyond measure) - those definitely take a good while to load.

I am looking into using better theme - this issue will be taken care of in near future so perhaps it'll speed up the loading. I'm still puzzled about the firefox issue though.

I'm on IE7, i can test from another PC...

If you use your site regularly then there's a good chance you're holding the page in cache...

CTRL + F5 the page and see if you still get content...

I'm just shooting off to bed now but i'll give it a shot from another PC tomorrow (late today even), but i don't expect the results to differ at this point...

    Another last post...

Quickly tested from the other PC (remote desktop to PC in other room). And strangely it worked fine...

I'll have to take a closer look when i'm up and alert....

Certainly not consistent results thus far... :-s ....

Sure it's something silly, but i'm gonna head for my beauty sleep now.. nite nite.. ;)

One last thing (i got hooked on the issue now lol)...

I can view this in Firefox...

    [NSFW]
    http://www.bestgore.com/?p=1

I'm starting to suspect a permalink issue... since it loads when an invalid page is requested..

Anyways, good night mate, and i'll speak to you later today/tomorrow (whenever lol)...

Same with pages, if i purposely enter and incorrect link.. like
yoursite.com/About/ (capital A instead of lowercase)... i get another Whoops error page..

Might be worth seeing if changing or re-saving your permalink settings has any effect on the problem...

Also consider temporarily disabling plugins... test, re-enable, move along to the next, test, and so on...

I understand woops error pages, that is fine - it's just WP telling me that there is no such page on this blog (aka wrong URL). However I'm more concerned over Firefox not even recognizing most posts that are made. It's not recognized to a point that it doesn't even show in the sidebar where latest posts are displayed.

And if you cut and paste existing link of a post that Firefox ignores into a FF address bar, it displays plain white page. What the hell is Firefox thinking? And how come WP is programmed to allow it to strip certain posts at its leisure? I don't get it. Freaking conspiracy, if you ask me.

Got to make an announcement in the side bar for my visitors to make them switch to a real browser and quit using wannabe browsers. My FF visitors probably don't even realize how much they are missing out on. They probably think there are not that many posts on the site yet.

According to analytics, shocking 34% of surfers who visit my blob use Firefox. That's 34% of clueless population that don't know what they're missing. Firefox is like cancer of the internet that keeps spreading and infecting unaware population. I betcha my site is not the only one. Firefox is censorship at its finest.

I still don't understand how you think this is down to Firefox...

Evidently not all pages work (i can get some) ... but i don't think it's down to the actual browser itself.

I use wordpress, i use firefox, i've never had a problem, neither have god knows how many other users.

What makes you think this a WordPress or Firefox issue?

More likely to be a poor written piece of code, whether that be in the form of a plugin or something else...

34% wise people you ask me... i can't see why anyone would use IE or Chrome, both awful browsers... Opera would be my alternative if i couldn'nt use Firefox... In any case, this really isn't the place for a browser debate, so i'll shut up now... :)

I'm looking into theme switch. See if that helps anything. Right now the only issue remains that half the posts don't display in Firefox. I don't know what to blame it on, but it's obvious that Firefox has the ability to recognize WP database entries and can choose to disregard some.

Obviously FF knows about those posts, cause they are in the RSS feed, it just somehow chooses to not display them when you visit actual site. Not even references to them, such as links in sidebars. That's the worst case of internet censorship I've ever experienced.

Firefox interprets code, it doesn't choose...the user chooses what to send it, as in clicking links and entering URL's...

It takes what it is given and outputs it to the screen...

Firefox doesn't selectively choose to hide posts. If a page isn't displayed it's because the code being fed to it, has errors, a bug, is invalid or something else..

Use the theme preview in the admin section from Firefox and see if another theme has the same problem.

Did you check your permalinks, did you re-save them?, try changing them?

I also took the liberty of testing from the browsershots website..

This page should be up for a little while..

    [NSFW] Clicky..

Looks fine in all of those (older versions warn due to content)... see the screenshots (click the images).

So the problem gets more confusing now... :-s

Interesting. I suspect issues with theme. I should try a new one. Too bad I had this one integrated with forums. Damn.

Do you know if FF v.3 has violent content filter and if so - how do I turn it off?

No FF3 doesn't look like it does, and i was never warned when entering your site.

Nor did the browser shots for FF3.

It was the earlier versions that show a content warning, as per the screenshots... (FF version is listed below it).

For a second there I thought that perhaps that filter automatically rejects posts it finds violent, in which case it would be just a matter of turning it off. But since that's not the case, it makes the matter so much worse. It just means that people with Firefox simply don't see half of my posts and they can do nothing about it.

I still think my current theme is messing things up (if anything). Cause I don't use that theme on any of my other blogs, but I use the same set of plug ins everywhere else. Though I have yet to check my other blogs for missing posts in Firefox.

It's just a major slap in the face when you use your site for a year and everything always works smoothly and then you see it in another browser and it's like giant dildo up your ass. One browser continuously displays everything perfectly, another one completely screws your site in the arse. Now I'll have to bloat my puter with Firefox so I can keep checking on my sites to make sure I don't go another year with only half of it showing.

I run a copy of the major browsers for testing, as most developers do, i'm surprised you hadn't checked it until now..

You also have browsershots above for free testing to...

If you must avoid Firefox, then don't install it, use browsershots...

So really there's no excuse to not test, and you don't need to install anything if it bothers you that much...

I dislike Opera, but i'll install it if i need to do some Opera specific testing... and i'd still choose using it over IE..

9/10 times, if i write valid code, i don't even need to check the other browsers... Opera and Firefox both interpret code great, IE is the only browser i religiously check, because it's so notoriously bad at displaying pages as they should be...... though newer versions are getting better...

No such thing as a perfect browser... Use what ..you.. like, and code for as many as you can... everyone is entitled to use what works ..for them.. you can cater for them, or leave them out, it's your choice being your own web developer...

I guess you learn as you go along. It's probably because I'm not a developer that I neglected the fact that there are browsers that may be busting my sites wide open and I don't even know about it. I'm gonna make a habbit out of checking what other browsers display my sites as.

I changed the theme 2 days ago but firefox still displays the old one. I could see the new one in IE right away, but even now two days later, FF still displays the old one. Any ideas how this is possible? Does it mean that if I was posting 20 posts a day, FF users would not see them as they are posted?

    CTRL + F5...

    Full refresh...

It's just stuff held in cache..

It doesn't do nothing. It seems as though FF displays an ancient version of the site and refuses to refresh. Ctrl + F5 has no effect. The version that it displays is two months old. That's some serious caching situation that FF sports.

However there is some success - at least if I cut and paste a URL of the post that was previously completely ignored by FF, now it displays it. Which kind of makes it clear in my mind that the old theme I had there was the root of all evil.

Wow - I have the same issue - thanks for Google and this forum - I searched Google using the keywords "why is Firefox showing older posts" and this forum was result #3 or 4. It appears an older forum and the issue still seems open though - what's up with that? The last post before mine was 9 months ago! Anyone find a solution yet?

I used to be a HUGE Firefox fan - let me say that up front. Anyhow I use both Firefox and IE since Firefox has been doing poorly lately and I have noticed IE displays things more nicely for my blog, actually refreshes itself when you say "refresh", and shows the latest post.

For some reason, Firefox is only showing posts on my site 2makemoneyonline.org from a month ago from my blog. Why?

Also, my unblockable popup from MaxBlogPress that I use on my blog works for IE but not for Firefox. Also strange. That tells me this COULD be a issue related to plugins I use in Firefox - it's been a while since I updated them. Also, maybe it's just the features of one of the plugins?

What's strange is my post that seems to stay static on the front page using Firefox also is getting better search traffic than my other posts.

I will try this browser plugins updating route and let you know if it works. The only change I made in the last month is adding a couple SEO plugins.

BTW ctrl + F5 didn't do anything either.

Anyhow, if someone else finds out the clue to this mystery, please let me know. Meanwhile, I will blog about this issue at my site!
