I'm trying to learn some of the basics of editing a theme, and I was using the classic theme as a template. However I have some confusion about the index.php file. I cannot find any call to initialize the sidebar.php file inside this index file. Does it somehow access the sidebar file in a different manner? I know the theme is working properly so I don't think there is any problems with the theme files.

It calls it from the footer.php.

The sidebar is called in the footer.php of that theme. The call is <?php get_sidebar(); ?>
