I have been thinking about a way to filter the archives actually. Rather than adding filtering to the shortcode though, I’m thinking of adding some form of filtering to the archives page itself.
For archives by title, I’m leaning towards displaying all of the letters at the top of the page as links. Clicking on one would load the books that start with that letter.
I’m just trying to figure out the best technique to use with the genre archives. I could list them all as links just as I plan to do with the archives by title, but if someone has a lot of genres, it could take up a lot of space at the top of the page. So I think I may have to use a drop-down to list all of the different genres, and when someone picks one, books in those genre will show. But, I’m open to suggestions on this one!

I like your idea for the archives by title, having the letters at the top of the page that link further down the page to the corresponding reviews (or something along those lines).
As for genre archives, I’m not a huge fan of drop down list, but that’s just me. If I had my druthers I would prefer some sort of way to filter the short code, add an additional attribute that could say “show all reviews that have the genre ‘kid lit'”, or something like that. But, I have no idea how that would work behind the scenes, coding wise!!
