I have been testing everything to work around this issue. I am not a developer, so please excuse me if I did this myself.

I have added some widgets of WPP to my site, trying to show the most popular posts in different categories.

I have put in the category ID for posts to be shown, and the same with minus for categories not to be shown (26,-31 etc)

Its working in the way that the only desired category is shown, but the total number of posts goes down. I have set it up to show 4 posts, and if the category only has 2 posts inside the total top 4, those are the only posts shown, meaning that the widget only shows 2 posts.

Is this the way it should be? Or am I doing something wrong?

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi there,

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work. From the FAQ (wp-admin > Settings > WordPress Popular Posts > FAQ):

Sets the maximum number of popular posts to be shown on the listing.

This means that WPP will list up to 4 posts that meet the requirements set by the user.

Ok, thank you for your answer Héctor Cabrera.

But it if 4 posts in one category is within the top 6 of all categories (in stats), and the top 2 on that same list is occupied by another category, the list in my widget will only show 2 posts.

I think the best would be if it purged out the other categories and picked the the top 4 (if thats the amount set by user) among them. The way it works now, all the other category posts (which are excluded) take up places on the list, and makes the list show less than 4 although there are posts from 5 and down the list with high popularity.

I have to say that its a great plugin in all other ways and its very easy to use ;-)
