    Just a ground-testing enquiry really:

Anyone know if it should theoretically be possible to make a plugin to filter certain categories from the Categories list on the Edit Post page, for non-admin users?

I’d like to create a ‘Documentation’ category, and don’t want non-admins to be able to categorise posts in that category, and I’d also like to prevent ordinary posts being categorised in categories I’d like reserved for posts created with custom write forms.

    Maybe it’s already been done…

    Hi MichealH,

thanks very much once again for getting back to me!
Thanks for the pointer. I’ll look into that, looks like it might do what I want.

I actually looked at a plugin called ‘Role Scoper’ a while back, which would also almost certainly do what I’m after. I’m getting concerned about ‘plugin bloat’ though. A lot of plugins seem to do the sort of things I need, but also throw in a huge amount of other stuff I really don’t want, hence I’m trying to make my own versions what literally just do what I want, and nothing else.

I guess what I should do is poke around inside all these other plugins and try and extract just the bits I need. The problem is, it’s sometimes hard to know what does what when there are so many extraneous lines of code to comb through…

I guess that comes with experience, though.

    Anyway, thanks again.

Dealing with categories and roles is a nightmare so a plugin is a lot easier for me to get my head around 😉
