This would indeed be a useful feature. Right now it’s not possible. The only workaround is to select categories to be displayed and use the category filter. But of course you’d need to adapt the filter every time you create new child categories. So I guess it’s not very maintainable.

Let me check how difficult it would be to provide such an option.

Just an update. It was actually pretty easy to implement this.

I’ve added a checkbox to the category filter. If checked, all children of the selected categories will be automatically recursively added to the list when displaying the widget.

The new feature will be available in a few hours when I upload version 0.3.4. I’ll add an answer and mark this topic as resolved when the new version is online. Please have a look at it and let me know whether it matches your expectations.

    Hi @benohead.

I’m trying to utilise the shortcode for just displaying the primary & child categories, inserted into a page, not a widget.
    Wordpress doesn’t seem to return a ‘category_id’.

Do you have any shortcode suggestions for this?

    [showtagcloud taxonomy=”category” category_id=”” category_name=”Acupuncture” format=”rounded” child_categories=”1″]

    Kind regards!
