    I tried to manually install WooCommerce by downloading the zip file, unzipping, and using Filezilla to ftp up to my site on GoDaddy. When I tried to access the site, I got an error that one of the files was missing.

    Filezilla had reported no errors, but when I ftp’ed the woocommerce directory back to my local drive and compared directories, I found 5 files missing:

    • woocommerce/includes/admin/importers/class-wc-tax-rate-importer.php
    • woocommerce/includes/class-wc-ajax.php
    • woocommerce/includes/class-wc-checkout.php
    • woocommerce/includes/class-wc-download-handler.php
    • woocommerce/includes/class-wc-logger.php

    I turned on error logging on the site and tried to upload just those 5 files. Again, Filezilla reported no errors. The file names flashed briefly on the site and then disappeared. There were no errors in the log either.

    I tried uploading the same 5 files on several other hosting services where I have sites:

    • HostGator
    • A2Hosting
    • LunarPages
    • 1And1

    I had no problems on any of them.

    When I reported the problem to GoDaddy, they had me upload the files through their File Manager. That worked.

    They then said that there was nothing they could do about the problem because no error messages were generated.

    So, beware if you try to upload files to a GoDaddy site using Filezilla. Your upload may silently fail.

    Yes, apparently GoDaddy had some issues with the WordPress 4.0 update (some discussion in the WP Forums List).

    By using the built-in GoDaddy File Manager… the uploads seem to go through properly.

    I also heard this should have been fixed.

    When exactly did you experience this issue?

    Friday, September 12, about 10 minutes before posting the topic.

    EDIT: Apparently the WP issue is a separate one. The support person assured me that the cause of the WP problem (which I also experienced) would have no bearing in this issue.

    The WP problem I had was the server disconnecting. GoDaddy resolved that last night.

    I’ll pass this information along to GoDaddy.

    In the meantime, for GoDaddy, consider enabling the SSH support and using SFTP to transfer files instead. Filezilla supports SFTP just fine too.

    FTP isn’t exactly the most secure thing in the world, and using encrypted connections when you can is always a better solution… and I don’t believe that file transfers via SFTP will be affected by this, although I’m not 100% positive on that, so don’t bet on it or anything.

    I am a system administrator with GoDaddy and have been trying to reproduce the error you have described but I am not seeing that same behavior. I was able to upload the entire WooCommerce plugin without issue. If you could let me know the name of the domain you are working on I should be able to review the logs and better understand what you experienced.

    I do use sftp when available, but GoDaddy and HostGator only allow that on the primary ftp user which requires the userid and password to the account. When I am on a client site where the client does not want me to have full access to their account, I am sometimes stuck.

    @josh, did you verify the file count on the upload? As I said, there was no visible indication that there was a problem. I only found the problem when I tried to run the application. A comparison of the actual file count highlighted the problem.

    I will call support later and have them email the ticket details to you.

    @vtxyzzy, yes, I did a file count before and after. I counted 584 files on my local machine as well as the remote machine after uploading and I also used FileZilla to perform the transfer.

    I will look forward to the email with the ticket information.

    Strange, when I uploaded the woocommerce plugin, I got 682 files. The count on the folder on my local machine was 687.

    In my hosted domain, mcdstaging.info, I created a folder named godaddy-test. Inside that folder, I uploaded a zip file containing 3 of the files that failed plus one that worked. That zip file was extracted (using File Manager) inside godaddy-test to godaddy-upload.

    I verified that uploading one of the single files with Filezilla still silently fails.

    In case it matters, I am using Filezilla 3.9.0.5 under Windows 7 Pro.

    I hope that gives you enough to recreate the problem. If not, please let me know.

    @otto, I have verified that transfers using sftp have the same problem.

    @vtxyzzy, Can you provide the URL and version of the woocommerce plugin you downloaded? I was using http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/woocommerce.zip in my test.

    I have looked into the logs for the domain you provided and have made some changes. Can you please try uploading those five files again via FTP? I think that you and I were looking at two different versions of the plugin and it’s likely I just need to know where the preferred download is coming from.

    If you have some time and are willing to feed my curiosity I’d like to know if this change at all changes the behavior using sftp on these five files as well.

    @josh, !!!!!!!!!!!!!! You fixed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It was my fault for not giving the version of WooCommerce I was using. I was uploading an older version to duplicate a site that I was working on. That was why I uploaded copies of the files in question as a zip file, so that you would have copies to test.

    As I mentioned to Otto, using sftp did not make any difference. The same 5 files failed to upload. The file names appeared briefly and then disappeared.

    I would like to know what you did to correct the situation, if you are allowed to tell me.

    Thanks for looking into this, especially after the tech support person I talked to said there was nothing that could be done!
