I need to upload a .txt file but it can’t say .txt at the end of the file. I use windows and have tried hiding extension but filezilla still show the .txt. If I change the extension once it’s uploaded, it changes the file type to all files and it needs to be a text file.

    Any ideas?

  • Hiding the extension doesn’t remove the extension. It just hides it, which, by the way is a very bad idea IM(not so)HO.

You can show the extension and then edit the file name to remove the extension. You know you’ve got because Windows complains. That does work. I just tried it (Windows 7 and FileZilla). You can also remove the file ending after you upload. I just tried that too. It works too. The reported file type changes to ‘file’ on my server, but it is still just a plain text file.

Why are you trying to do this? That extension can be important. Please explain 🙂

Thanks. It did work. I was trying to add a file to my server to manager PHP memory and the instructions specifically said to add a particular text file with no extension but when I changed the extension after uploading it would just say file – but it did indeed work. Thanks
