Hello,
I'm currently trying to customise the default (Kubrick) theme.
It seems like I can only get my installation of WP to let me update the files from within the dashboard if I set the permissions on the theme to 777 but I don't really want to do that because, as I understand it, this will leave me more vulnerable to bugs and (I'm not quite sure what else but the general consensus seems to be that it's bad).
Am I doing something wrong with my file permissions?
Does it matter that my default theme folder is set to 777?
Any help very much appreciated.
Thanks
James

I've been able to get image uploads working with 775 permissions if you can get the uploads folder's group set to match the group the web-server is running under. It should work with the rest of the files too.

Check out the dangers of 777 in the codex. I'm dealing with a similar situations and it's not the theme... it's the hosting company and their server configuration. I'll be moving the site to a hosting company that allows a more secure WordPress setup!
