   I'm trying to show a list of files in the sidebar that can be downloaded. I can't seem to find a way to display a list of uploaded files. Is there a template function or even a custom bit of PHP that i can use to expose this?
   It would also be very useful if i could categorize the files into a couple of categories. Is this possible?

   Have a look at the WP Download Manager Plugin. It includes multiple templates - including one for a sidebar display.
