Feed Was Plugging Along, Now Broken

    I tried to turn off Smartcast in FeedBurner, so that the people wouldn’t see my images, so they’d have to visit my site from the feed.

    I got a lot of errors:

    The URL you entered does not appear to be a valid feed. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 1: The processing instruction target matching “[xX][mM][lL]” is not allowed.

    What can I do? I don’t even know where the feed code is edited, or anything about how to START to fix this.

    I am using Word Press 1.5

    I’ll take it this time ya’ll ;-).

    This question is asked daily and thus can be found easily searching on the error. The most likely culprit is you have activated a plugin or made a change in a file that added or has some extra spaces or lines before the “<?php” or after the “?>”

    I went awhile with this error before I found the errant file. It is annoying, but the feed requires “<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″?>” to be on the first line without any spaces and you have one measily space.

    Wow. I did not understand what you said. And it took me a while to figure it out. It was a plugin, but I’m confused about how it happened. I know some new things, now, at least. (I knew about that whitespace thing, but nothing about Feeds.)

    Were you able to fix the plugin and reactivate it?
