Support » Fixing WordPress » Feed is down after changing theme

  • I recently changed themes on my website. When I tried to re-input the code I had used for my previous theme, I get a continual error. I use Feedburner to power my feed, and activating the plug-in on WordPress has not helped me. The theme I am currently using is Beautiful Sunrise 1.2. The theme does not include the code for any RSS feed, so I copy and pasted the code from my previous theme.

Here’s the message I get every time I click “update file” under the theme editor in my dashboard:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/allthio7/public_html/wp-content/themes/beautiful-sunrise-10/functions.php:72) in /home/allthio7/public_html/wp-admin/theme-editor.php on line 60

I get a variety of these messages, some of which mention a problem with “pluggable.php” which I have been unable to find.

Any help or suggestions for how I can fix my problem is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Well, check functions.php at line 72.

As for the other errors with pluggable, it is most likely a plugin that is causing the problem.

Oh ok. I kept getting lost with the line 60 message. I went to go take a look at it, only now it’s not even letting me into any part of my dashboard. It keeps giving me this message:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/allthio7/public_html/wp-content/themes/beautiful-sunrise-10/functions.php:72) in /home/allthio7/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 694

I get the same message every time I try to click on any part of my Dashboard. Something tells me this is not good.

I suppose I could remove the theme completely through my hosting server, but I’m not sure what that’ll do to the rest of the site.

Okay, I just realized that’s the same message except with “line 694” at the end now.

Is it best, in the future (assuming I fix this), to deactivate plug-ins before switching themes? I didn’t do that this time. I’m wondering if maybe all this has to do with that I switched from 2.2 to 2.5.1 a few weeks ago. I don’t know, I’m quite confused and very frustrated.

Thanks again for the tip, Scribu! Assuming I can get my dashboard functioning again, I’ll definitely see if that works.

As it turns out, a very effective way to improve this problem is to completely delete the theme from your server. I can now access my dashboard properly, and I’ll have another go at fixing the new theme with a proper RSS feed. Fingers crossed!

    Thanks again, Scribu. 🙂

When making a big update like from 2.2 to 2.5.1 there are bound to be plugins that break. Good luck with the bug hunt! 🙂
