Featured Image- non-existent image file error

    I am trying to add a “featured image” to a Post and when the media browser opens the first thumbnail image is an empty image and I am not able to select any of the other images currently in the library or upload a new image and then apply it as the featured image.

    How do I get rid of this non-existent ghost image in the media library?
