The featured image box has gone missing in wpmu. I have tried moving back to the 2012 theme as well as disabling plugins. No luck with either.
Any ideas?

Okay so that was quick fix. It was dev site apart from my main WPMU install. Had neglected to set the media upload buttons in Network Settings as I have them on the main site.
Nothing wrong with wpmu
