    Hi all,

    Been using WP for some weeks now, in fact I have migrated all of my joomla sites over to WP. However I am still amazed that such a good script as WP does not come with some pretty basic stuff as featured image! There have been a few other things along the way that you would expect to be standard but are not.So my latest problem is the.... "Featured Image" in the post/blog, this does not show in the article nore does it show on the article list/blog index. As I said, it amazes me that with such a good script these things do not come as standard, almost like buying a sports car that doesn't have an engine!

    Have tried various templates with no luck, I have the featured image ticked in screen otions and I am able to set featured image in edit post but after that it vanishes never to be seen again.

    tips?

    "Featured Image" in the post/blog, this does not show in the article nore does it show on the article list/blog index.

    WordPress has all the functionality to deal with featured images;
    but it is down to the individual theme if/where/how to show the featured image.

    if your current theme does not show a featured image with posts, then you might need to edit some templates.

    please post the names of the themes you have tried so far;

    Twenty Twelve for instance does show the featured image, above the post title in index pages and single posts.

    I have the featured image ticked in screen otions

    this only shows the field where you can set a featured image - it does not influence if hte featured image is hown anywhere in the site.

    Hi Alchymyth

    I have tried both templates that come with WP even tho I am not using them I figured I should see if it works with them but alas is does not, I use a premium template from yootheme, but I would be happy just to see some featured images on any template for now! I will google twenty twelve.

    I have read that link that you posted and entered the code
    add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' ); into functions but it did nothing.

    Murphy's Law at its best - by choice of the theme developers, those two themes are not showing the featured image in posts or index pages.

    there are some forum topics dealing with adding the featured image into those themes.

    add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' ); does not do anything to show the featured images; for that you will need to have the_post_thumbnail() and related functions in your theme's templates.

    I use a premium template from yootheme

    have you contacted the theme's author directly for support with your 'problem'?
    does the theme's demo or description suggest that the theme is using featured images?

    I do intend on contacting them about featured images once I have exhausted all avenues myself as I don't like to bother people for help. I can see it working in twenty twelve even tho the images are masive, I also notice they are on top of the post and not to the left of it (blog index) even tho in the featured image box I selected left alignment. I also notice a new box called "format" whats that all about?

    that is right - Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven are using the featured image as a header image.

    different subject - http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Formats

    it will sure take a while to get used to the possiblities of WordPress -

    if you stumble upon a question or problem, searching for and reading the corresponding Codex chapters will help to improve your understanding. http://codex.wordpress.org/
