    Hi Camu,

Great program. I would like to request a few enhancements..

    1) A filter in each of the tabs to filter out bots/etc… I only want to see humans on the default screens.

    2) A table whereby ‘known’ IP address bots and crawlers can be given a Name or alias that is displayed. I understand the Geo link can give me that but a reference table sitting on my server would be most beneficial.

    Thank you,
    drew

    Hi there

    1) set a filter where visit_id is greater than 0
    2) so you mean to be able to consider some IPs as “known users”?

Ps a vote/review for my plugin would be a nice way to say thank you

    Camu,

question # 1 – I would still insist a way to ‘toggle’ the two source types by human and bot. I don’t think everyone is as interested in the bot traffic shown as a default. Maybe a filter button for “Show Bot Data” and “Don’t Show Bot Data”

for question 2 – Yes. It would be very beneficial to even mark an IP and MASK (i.e. 255.255.255.0) so that ALL IPs within a given NETWORK are flagged too. For example – if you have access to the subnet mask and an IP address – it is simple to define the range of IPs within that network and create a table that marks them all from Google/MSN/ or whatever.

I already voted for you man!

    Drew,

    1) if your goal is to completely ignore BOTS (not even track them), the next version of WP SlimStat will finally do that in a reliable way 🙂 So stay tuned for the announcement in the next few weeks or contact me if you want to test drive it

    2) where would ‘google/msn/etc’ appear?

Thank you for your vote 😉

    Camu,

Thinking about the ‘ideal’ stats report layout – I’d think most users want to first see by default the real human traffic on their site. The bots and crawler traffic are actually the website maintenance overhead. Think of it similar to the keepalive packets for hardware on a given network segment compared to the ‘session’ data. The bots/crawlers are the maintenance hits for the site. They keep your site current with DNS servers, search engines, etc. I would be happy to assist you in more detail if you’d like. I used to run the technical stat audit group at Cisco and have a career in output layout and design.

I’m happy to test your beta.

I’m not sure if MOST users would want that, it is always a big leap of faith to imply things for a large community of users. We should have a survey to see what other people want. I, for one, want to see how many pageviews my site is getting, to block unwanted bots or make sure I’m not using too much bandwidth, or to avoid or prevent ddos attacks.

However I’d love to discuss this further with you, so please feel free to contact me to talk off-line about these enhancements

    Cheers

I’ve something in place for #1, and I am setting the option to ignore bots to true by default on new installations, we’ll see how many people complain about it 😉 As for #2, I’d like to better understand what you have in mind. Contact me at
