   I was trying to install the newer version 3.3.1 on my server but got the problem. It says

   Fatal error: Call to undefined function register_theme_directory() in /home/a1317308/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 192
   

   Thought it might be a simple error so I replaced wp-settings.php and still the error comes out.

   Anyone pls help..

   Your themes might be uncompatible with the new version. Try to put the default theme of twenty eleven and see if it works or not.

   This happens on installation. How could I the default theme??

   Try deleting everything and then re-uploading all files & folders from a fresh download of WordPress.
