Fatal Error when upgrading – please help

    Just tried an automatic upgrade and the site’s down with this message:

    Fatal error: Call to a member function register_handler() on a non-object in /home/lapiness/public_html/wp-includes/media.php on line 1304

    which I don’t understand.

    Via FTP I’ve tried removing each theme in turn (twentyten, twentyeleven), and also removed the Plugins folder, but still nogo.

    I can ‘view’ the media.php file but not sure how to see line 1304 or what to do about it.

    Could anyone please advise? I can see similar problems with upgrades, but they seem to be solved by either changing themes or plugins.

    Also, not sure if I was upgrading to 3.8.
