• Okay so I literally have seen a dozen posts about this. I don’t want to exhaust anyone or get referred back to the old posts, so hear me out.

I got the good ole’ Fatal Error: Out of Memory Exhausted yada yada.

I have a server with 1&1. I don’t have access to php.ini. You can overwrite it by making your own, it fixed it for about 5 minutes. I’ve edited wp_config with the coding, wp_settings with the coding & multiple other suggestions with upping the memory allowed. In addition, I turned off all Plugins and nothing happened.

I contacted my host this morning & they told me that I’m maxed out at 60m & theres nothing I can do with them, & wordpress needs to help me “optimize” my site. I’ve built and ran many wordpress sites and have NEVER run into this before. So I’m quite frustrated being I’m not a complete goofball when it comes to knowledge with the service.

I’d love to share the site but I have it protected and private as it is an employee backend for our company.

Essentially what I have setup is BuddyPress, A purchased theme “Fusion” / Child Theme from MySiteMyWay: http://mysitemyway.com/theme/fusion-wordpress-theme/

& I’m running a plugin called Private! that essentially protects the wordpress from being accessed.

Otherwise I have maybe 2-3 small plugins adding features to BuddyPress & like 2 small images that are only a few KB. No blog posts, No members. I merely set it up and got this issue.

I even erased all the themes offered from WP, so my active theme is the only one on the server.

Does ANYONE have any kind of clue what the heck I should do here? I mean should I consider deleting the theme/child theme and reinstalling it? I don’t even know if that will matter, but just reaching at this point..

  • I’ve never been a fan of 1&1, I would try moving away from them and use another web host like HostGator or DreamHost or LiquidWeb.

(Stay away from GoDaddy though, they’re just as bad as 1&1)

Any half decent web host should not give you this issue.

What @jdingman said. If your server is going to give you grief for basic BuddyPress install, it’s going to fail when you get more members, create groups, add more WP/BP plugins and go multisite for user blogs, etc.

Your cluster is probably oversold. Ask them if they can move you to a smaller/less used cluster? Otherwise, yeah, you need a new host.
