Fatal error: Call to a member function children() on a non-object in /home/tomruff/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/widgets/AmazonShowcase.php on line 40

All of a sudden this error message is appearing on the blog. It causes everything below it to screw up. I removed it and readded it and it still shows this error. For the time being I just removed Amazon Showcase from displaying on the sidebar until I can figure out why it's generating an error message. Once resolved I'd like to add back to the blog page. Please let me know why this error is appearing and how I can resolve it. Thanks!!!

The Amazon Showcase plugin requires WP 2.7 or above.

    You're only using WP 2.2.1

Hmm...that is strange because we've had the blog for a while and the Amazon Showcase has always worked up until recently. Did WordPress make a change recently that would affect it? Would you happen to know how I could upgrade my wordpress? Is there cost involved? Thank you sooo much!

Did WordPress make a change recently that would affect it?

WP 2.8 introduced some changes that affected plugins. As a result, some older plugins that had stopped working were then updated to be compatible with 2.8. Looks like that plugin isn't backwards compatible. :-(

There is a list of older versions for that plugin:

Downgrading to one of those (version 1.3 perhaps?) might solve your current problems.

Would you happen to know how I could upgrade my wordpress?

    Is there cost involved?

Not if you can manage to carry it out yourself. On the plus side, once you do upgrade, future upgrades should be far easier. There's now a 1-click automatic upgrade option.
