FastCGI Error - I'm new, please help if you can. (2 posts)

    Hi, I'm new to WordPress, it's been something I've been looking into recently and today decided to take the plunge and get a blog up and going.

    However, after setting up my database etc and following all of the instructions (very carefully) I get an error when calling the install.php script. The error is:

    =======================================================

    FastCGI Error
    The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

    Error Details:

    * The FastCGI process exited unexpectedly
    * Error Number: -2 (0xfffffffe).
    * Error Description: Unknown Error

    HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

    =======================================================

    This can also be viewed directly on the URL:
    http://www.unibands.co.uk/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

    I Googled for a solution about this but none have worked that I have tried which involved some code fixes and amends etc. Apparently it is something to do with IIS. However, I am on a shared hosting server so I can't access stuff like that. I can only FTP and handle the Database through PHPmyAdmin.

    I firstly tried to install the latest release, 2.6.3 (I think) and had the problem. Someone said when they rolled back to an older version it worked, but I have tried several of these to no success.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot beleive I'm stuck already on the first block!!

    Many thanks,
    Mikey.

    ask your host to switch you to a linux server with php/mysql - most will do this for free. Everything is so much more trouble free and works on all scripts better - well except for .asp(x)
