Failed to import Media

    Developed my WP on localhost environment, I just pushed the site live – tried to upload all the content. Everything worked except for all the images.

    I used WP importer plugin and checked off include all media, and it failed to import all the images.

    I have 200 images within my media library. I’d be greatly appreciated if I can get a solution for this problem.

    You cannot import images from a local install unless the same local site is accessible via the web.

    Really? So I can access it from here? If not, then neither can your remote WP site.

    I misunderstood – It isn’t accessible from the web from an external source.

    It is hosted on a localhost port.

    What is the reason behind not being able to export and import media?

    The new site has to contact the old site to import the image files.

    So I am screwed. Thats what your saying?

    I don’t understand how people could develop on localhosts then. I have to rebuild the site again basically.

    We do try to warn people against developing entire sites locally. Local installs are only really recommended if you’re developing a theme or plugin – ie something that is easily uploadable via FTP.

    Well all media content was uploaded via FTP as well. Same folder structure. How is this different?

    The images have to be registered in the database – which is what happens when they are uploaded via WP.

    No. You either have to move WordPress properly or you will have to start re-uploading those images via WordPress.
