[resolved] Failed to import entries (WordPress XML) (7 posts)

I wish to transfer my entries from one WordPress blog to another, I've handled this sort of thing on another occasion and it all went over fine. This time, however, it stopped importing entries after March 14th, my most recent entry being April 27th.

I'm not really sure how to rectify this. Should I try doing it again or will I have doubles of all my entries? Should I delete all my entries and re-upload?

Just an update, I tried re-uploading and it added about... four more entries and stopped again. Guess I'll try another time.

Your XML file might be too big. Try splitting it and then uploading only part at a time.

And no, to answer your question (even though you probably figured this out, but someone else reading may not know) it would not give you double your posts. WP is smart enough to recognize the same post, in fact it will even let you know it found the same post and skipped over it. :)

Hmm, it says the limit is 7MB, and my XML file is only 2.22MB. Should I try splitting it anyway? (not really good with XML, I don't think I know how to split it - then again, I haven't looked much)

Edit: I tried again and it uploaded a few more posts then stopped, once more.

Mark explains how to do this better than I can. :)

You might want to split it from where it hasn't already imported, rather than necessarily for file size. but either way make sure you keep back up copies!!

Mark's explanation is a good one. So good that I wrote a free program based on this concept to do the hard work for you.

It's a WordPress WXR (XML) file splitter and it not only helped my friend, but a bunch of other people have downloaded it too and left comments on my website about how easy this was. Give it a shot!

(requires Windows and .NET 2.0 framework)
