• Just ran the automatic upgrade 3.0 to 3.1 and the article pages show 404 error. the database appears to be ok as the admin system still shows all articles and allows them to be edited.

How do I go back to 3.0.5??? Any help is appreciated.

  • Same question here… I’ve never had a problem and hit upgrade without thinking, and now I can’t access the wp-admin or home page or anything. Just have fatal error.

I was able to run the upgrade – and get back into my admin area and access everything.

When I try to go to the front end it hangs and hangs, then I get these errors from Firefox and Chrome:

    The page isn’t redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

I got so frustrated I totally killed one of the sites, database and all (it was a test site we use to develop themes). Did a total fresh install from a full 3.1 zip, created a new database and had the same problem. Finally I just killed all that and reinstalled version 3.0.5 and it works just like it did before (fine).

Of course this doesn’t help me for the ‘live’ site that is hanging in limbo with the 3.1 install. :-\

I’ve got full access to my server and nothing has changed.

    Here is the issue:

i upgraded to 3.1 and i suddenly got 404 errors. if i revert back from the permalink to standard urls, the site works fine, but the custom permalink results in a 404 error. and the previous links are not redirected to the new urls. it seems there is somethink that manually flushes the rewrite rules. and i have no idea how to do that.

Does anybody know if there is a paid support option anywhere on the WordPress site? Whatever the solution is is probably going to be over my head, and I’d like to get my site back online.

Try updating your permalinks. Settings->Permalinks. Hit the Save Button.

ok, so my site is running normally again. I subscribe to a security service that scans my site for malware usually, but the guys also fixed the site now again. I could not follow the procedure, but it had to do with recreating the htaccess file disabling/reenabling plugins. Took about 10 mins to fix. The guys are at sucuri.net. Other than that, I found this page:

I have no idea what flushing means, though.

I have these same errors and it’s driving me nuts. Everything was fine until I upgraded. Not it’s hosed. Has anyone really figured out what’s causing this?

Just after I posted my last message I found the answer! This has taken me hours of searching so I will share.

Apparently, they are aware that this is a problem with those hosting on an IIS server.

You just need to install and activate a simple plugin that will fix it until version 3.1.1 comes out.

    Good luck!
