• Hi there,

I discovered this morning the website I built for my company has been the victim of a little joke, but I don’t know how to correct this.

Please check out the landing page. http://www.lucid-direct.co.uk

I have no idea how they’ve done this and what I need to correct on the server.

If anyone could give me some tips, it would be much appreciated.

I’m not a web designer, it’s just something I do occasionally.

    I think I need to replace the index.php file…

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

  • IF it’s just a joke and someone replaced the text in index.php, replacing the file with a fresh version should fix it.

But actually, it looks like someone may set up custom error messages (which may still be a joke, but has nothing to do with the index page directly) and your site is choking on some bad code.

You can always try replacing WordPress’ core files with fresh copies. That may fix things by fixing whatever error is being thrown. But if it doesn’t, you’ll have to go through your server logs and find out what the nature of the error is.

    I wouldn’t consider it a joke. You’ve been hacked.

index.php is missing from your /wp-admin directory, and it looks like index.php in root has been altered. The index.php file located in /wp-content has also been altered. /wp-login.php is available, but will probably be useless at this point.

Some information on what to do and where to start…

thanks these sites were so helpful!

I replaced the index php files and site is back up, but can’t access the wp admin any more…

    well, halfway there!!

    Many thanks,

    Tajo
