Facebook Tab Manager Problem (22 posts)

I had all my tabs set up for a Blog Tour last week, but sometime this week (I'm assuming with an update) my tabs are not working. Which is a huge bummer as I invested in an ad this week and the tour is still going and now new leads go to a page that won't come up.
I have no idea why all of a sudden it is not working. I thought maybe with a new update that the canvas pages had be changed so I checked those to day to no avail.
Can anyone help me fix this?

Please make sure you have the latest version, as I did put out some bug fixes over the past week.

I do - you've been very busy...I'm diligent about updates, however, I think that is what the problem is, because like I said it was working last week.

So what specifically is not working? Can you give me URLs? Helps to look at both the URL on your domain and the tab url on Facebook.com. Is it an error message, or content not loading, or wrong template displayed, or what? Is there anything else you've changed?

The tabs show up on the left of my page:
    https://www.facebook.com/pages/T-Lynne-Tolles-Author/128197700541991
but when you click on the page say, Books for Sale it obviously tries to goes to a new page but nothing is there.
Same with my Welcome Tab and Blood Lust Blog Tour
    Here are the canvas settings

Enable permalinks on your site, and the problem should clear up immediately. I will put out an update that does a better job of handling the query string format ?fbtab= but you can probably solve the problem quicker by enabling permalinks.

Permalink is on, as far as I can tell and is set to default.

I meant "pretty permalinks" not the default with the ? query string.

Regardless, if you install v 2.9.5, which is available now, that should take care of the problem

Gotcha.... I'll check out the new version since it seems to me that there was a plugin I have installed that required permalinks to be "Default"

I have a question that maybe you could help me with. My facebook share button on my posts is not pulling in the content from my posts. Instead, it is pulling in a random image and description from another item (advertisement, comment, other post in featured content slider, etc.) to be shared. The link to be shared is correct. But, the image and description is not. Can you help me???

    The Farmers Daughter...
Facebook Tabs is WAY different than the share button. Facebook Tabs is where you have a page that actually exists on your personal website, that you pull through Facebook by making an application. I would check your settings and if you can't see anything wrong there, go to your PlugIns and click on the specific Plugin. There is usually a home page for the plugin and thats a great place to start. David Carr is the maker of the Facebook Tab Manager so at least I found the right guy for my problem.
    Good Luck!

    David
upgraded to 2.9.5 to no avail. Even went in and tried it with
    http://tlynnetolles.com/fbtab/books-for-sale/
Also noticed after the upgrade that when I did a Preview of my edits on WP that all my pictures were missing where as 2.9.4 they were showing fine.
Any other thoughts on what dumb thing I did?

The question is a little off topic, but I can suggest that you look at making sure your pages are outputting the right metadata to help Facebook figure out what to put in that excerpt.

There are several plugins available that add metadata in the Open Graph format Facebook recommends.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/opengraph/ is one, although it doesn't look like it's been updated lately and I haven't tried it. Would be worth trying.

Another way to go, if you want to include the same logo image on every post from a particular site (rather than some other image from the page or post). Is to add something like this in the header of your template.

    <link rel="image_src" href="http://www.mysite.com/wp-content/themes/mytheme/images/logo.png" /><!-- social media thumbnail -->

    tlynnetolles,

I'm puzzled. I did test it on my site with the permalinks default setting and it seemed to work fine with v 2.9.5

Did you try to do anything with the new themes / template functionality I added by any chance? On your settings screen, Facebook Theme should be set to Plugin Built-In if you just want the basic FB template.

Not sure what would be going on with the images. Check your HTML and make sure you've provided a full url for the images, not a relative url. If you inserted the images through the WordPress editor, that should have been done automatically.

I'm bad...I did...It looked so pretty with my theme in 2.9.4 and I was bored (I'm supposed to be adding new bookcover edits - not super fun) so I was poking around. Guess I shouldn't have. I'm setting it back to Plugin Built In and I'll try it again and let you know.

    Hmmm...question...
changed it all back (theme-wise) then changed ?ftab= to below for Canvas and Tab settings.
    http://tlynnetolles.com/fbtab/books-for-sale/
but in order for the above to work....doesn't there need to be an fbtab folder?

    Read this article
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

It's all a matter of redirection and slight of hand. WordPress makes it look like a directory structure, but it's really a logical structure rather than a physical hierarchy of folders on your server. It looks neater and it's supposed to be better for search engine optimization. Also much more human readable for your blog posts to be /2011/09/16/great-deal/ rather than ?p=23
