Facebook Publicizing client's posts with wrong Avatar (52 posts)

I administer my client's worpress site with Jetpack, and his Facebook page. Jetpack's Facebook Publicize is sending posts from my client's website (binyanhaolam.com) to my client's facebook page using my private wp.com avatar instead of the website's icon. see

We are currently working on a fix to avoid such issues. We will release a new version of Jetpack as soon as the fix is ready.

Will you also be fixing the problem I have, where Facebook shows a blue "Gravatar" instead of the featured image?

@rubious Can you post your site URL so I can have a look?

I've started a support request with JetPack.me and posted a URL there, I'd rather not put it on a public forum thanks.

I have the same problem with the blue 'Gravatar' being posted on Facebook.

On my website's facebook fanpage I was able to change the gravatar by changing our WordPress.com gravatar, but when the posts show-up on normal timelines away from the fanpage the blue gravatar shows-up again.

It would be MUCH better to let us specify the avatar for use by publicize instead of it taking a wild guess as to what it should be.

For an example see this link.

i've also noticed the same issue on our facebook page

    https://www.facebook.com/Takuchat

    our site is

    http://www.takuchat.com/

I would like it to simply show the featured image...

How can we be notified when this issue is resolved? Currently I am also experiencing the gravatar posted on Facebook instead of the Featured Image.

I am running Nginx, Varnish, PHP-FPM and W3 Total Cache.

I have verified that if I post the link on Facebook manually, the correct post information is displayed.

Now both our fanpage and posts in the timeline both have the blue gravatar.

Please Jeremy, if you could just put an upload button/url field (like many other settings in WordPress) so we can specify our own avatar/logo to be shown by Publicize when it can't figure-out the featured image for a post. This would at least solve this problem for the time being.

When I have a featured image, it works fine. If there is no image, it posts my gravatar to my FB page. Even when another administrator links to the facebook page through wordpress, it STILL posts my gravatar image.

I would prefer the default to be NO IMAGE if there is not one in the post.

Or, if it would pick up the open graph tag that I have which specifies a default image for facebook shares. This does work when I share to FB directly from the post.

Could you all update to the latest version of Jetpack, 2.0.4? We have made some changes to make sure the Featured Image is correctly used by Facebook.

If you don't use Featured Images, we search for images within your post to use on Facebook. If you didn't insert any images in your post, we will look for your Gravatar indeed. And if you didn't specify any gravatar, then no image will be displayed.

Guys the fix is nice, but it still defaults to my personal gravatar when it doesn't find anything else. this is NEVER appropriate for me, since i manage clients with my personal account!

@Benny I have forwarded your feedback to our developers, and we will consider adding this feature to a future version of Jetpack.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Same problem here! Sorry to ask for fix during the holidays! We really need that Gravatar image to go away.

On December 11, Facebook started posting blue default Gravatar image on our Publicize-posted Posts: JCDemsWV

Tried blocking the image on Facebook; didn't work. Tried --defensively -- creating a Gravatar image of our Facebook Profile picture with the email address we created for the Facebook page, but couldn't get that to connect.

Anyone know of the best plugin to automatically publicize posts on facebook and/or twitter?

Our posts are being publicized to Facebook with a default blue Gravatar image. Have setup a Gravatar account with our logo and also set a default Open graph image on our site if there is no featured image or image within a post. Can't figure out how to get the default image to show in Facebook.

Could you check the post author's email address, and see if it matches the Gravatar account you created with your logo?

For my sites, my email address would not match the Gravatar account created to display the logo of the organization for which I created the website.
I don't claim to understand this or to be certain that I am answering the question correctly. The problem is that those of us who create sites for other people don't want our personal -- or a default -- image displayed.

Our post authors email won't match the gravatar account that we want to show on the Facebook page.

Our website is a church site and volunteers add and edit content and are signed up with their own email addresses. I couldn't ask them all to set their gravatar images to the churches logo. We're publishing to the church Facebook page not their personal pages.

It would be better if when you select to allow anyone to be allowed to use the FB connection that you get the option to use a default image or a default gravatar account.

Thanks! I have forwarded your feedback to one of our developers, who will work on improving this feature.

In the meantime, I am afraid I can only recommend that you set up a Featured Image for each one of your posts, or insert an image in your posts to solve the issue.

    Thanks for the feedback Jeremy.

Just to feedback on your earlier question, I tried updating the author's gravatar to use the required logo but when the post was published, the default gravatar still pulled through.

When I use it on my site (http://www.TheSwitchRadio.com) it posts my Gravatar no matter who the author of the post is. Is there a way to fix this? I'd like it to use the Avatar of the Author, is there a way to pass/override this upon posting? Some function I can add?

@Diomenas We are having a look at that problem, and I will post again here once we can address the issue.

I'm having the same issue. Facebook displays only my default gravatar, no matter which site (email) I post from. It makes the feature unusable for me. It's too bad because I love the idea and the simplicity of it. I'd rather have to manually pick an image than have it post the wrong one all the time. I've had to delete posts from facebook and then manually share the links because of this issue. I appreciate you looking into it. I assume it's because it's tied into the wordpress.com profile??

Is there a way to change the plugin to pull the avatar of the author from WordPress using the already existent "get_avatar" function? This is a very silly problem to have for such a simple request.

Im looking through the file "jetpack/class.jetpack-post-images.php"; however, I'm seeing where it pulls an avatar, not seeing where it pulls a Gravatar. I want to force the plugin to pull an avatar as a last resort option. I've also changed my gravatar image, and while it's changed everywhere else, new posts published to facebook still pull my old image. Where is this cached and how can I clear it???

I've tried changing my Gravatar also and Publicize still pushes out my old one. I've even tried removing the action "jetpack_og_tags" and commenting out the gravatar/blavatar functions from the code. Is there someplace I can comment out a function to stop this? Otherwise, I'm going to have to disable Publicize.

When I paste the link directly into Facebook, it pulls my correct image link that I have set with Open Graph tags. Why would this be different if I commented out the functions?

    Thanks for your reply!

The publicize feature really needs a way to set a default image.

The problem is, as the author of this thread has said, when you're setting up a website for a client, and/or helping them manage it, it's totally inappropriate for posts going to Facebook or elsewhere to use a personal gravatar image.

There really should be a way to manually set a fallback image. Any idea when such a setting will be available?

Frankly, there should also be a setting to never use Gravatars at all for non-personal blogs.

And there should be a setting to not use any image unless a featured image is set.

Not only that, but they claim it pulls from Gravatar in realtime; however, I changed my Gravatar image several days ago and it still pulls the old image, despite my having replaced the code that pulls the Gravatar with the get_avatar() function. I'm going to have to drop publicize, despite its inherit good qualities, the flaws far outweigh the good.
