Below is a sample post that I made in Facebook, with a link to my website. For some weird reason, it includes the name of my company after the title of the video I am posting twice, i.e "9beach Films : 9beach Films". Why is it doing this?

    Looks like this:

Alchemy Hour: It's Coastal Cool -

      9beach Films : 9beach Films

    http://www.9beachfilms.com/alchemyhour/

    Please help. Thanks, cathy

  2. Hi Cathy,

It appears that you may have a plugin conflict. WordPress SEO is already adding the site title after the post's title in OpenGraph tags in your header. It appears that then a second plugin may be adding the text : 9beach Films after that, which is why it's coming up twice.

It's also possible that the second instance of the site title is coming from your theme.

You'll want to check your theme's SEO configuration (if there is one), and/or the WordPress SEO configuration and decide which one you want to keep.

    Hi Drew,

Thanks for getting back to me. My theme doesn't have an SEO configuration but I installed the WordPress SEO plugin yesterday. I also installed the following plug-ins:

    Fedmich's Facebook Open Graph Meta
Google Analytics for WordPress - I installed the code for this in the header.
    WordPress SEO

    Should I deactivate WordPress SEO.

Another weird thing -- entirely different than the above -- is happening. When I copy a link from my site to a post on Facebook, no thumbnail shows up. Well, that's not exactly true, for some it appears but not for others. Also, the thumbnail that does appear is very small. Any ideas? I'm a filmmaker so the image is especially important.

  4. Well, hazarding a guess, I'd say the conflict is between the Facebook Open Graph plugin and WordPress SEO. The latter does a much better job of preparing your posts for display in social media and Google search results, but it's up to you.

When I copy a link from my site to a post on Facebook, no thumbnail shows up.

This is probably because the og:image tag (see: Open Graph), isn't being set. You'll probably need to experiment with either/both of the two plugins named above to get it straight, but at the least, you should be using the Facebook debugger to see how your links will be read by Facebook's API. Best of luck.

    Hey Drew,

ok here's what I got from the facebook debugger:

Open Graph Warnings That Should Be Fixed

Inferred Property: The 'og:url' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Inferred Property: The 'og:title' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Inferred Property: The 'og:image' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

I have no idea what this means. I'm not a developer so, frankly, I'm having a hard time understanding your other directions too. :-((

So, please be patient with me:

As far as deciding between the Open Graph plugin vs. the SEO plugin. Should I delete the WordPress SEO plugin? When I tried to do this, a warning appeared saying I would be deleting a lot of files. As far as the Open Graph plug in, I don't see it on my list of plug-ins. Is the Open Graph facebook plug in on Facebook. Oy Vey. Also, my template does not feature an SEO option, as far as I can see.

    Thanks again,

    cathy
