[resolved] Facebook link missing post title; only shows site title (6 posts)

Hi. Just installed your plug-in two days ago because every time I put a link to one of my blog posts to Facebook, the description was a jumbled mess. I have managed to fix that problem, but now have a new one: Although the link in FB shows the correct image and a good description, the title of every post is just the site title, not the post title. I have attempted to link several posts and they all turn out the same: image good, description good, but just the title of the whole site every time. I am NOT linking to my home/index page -- linking directly to the post URL.

I read your instructions for what to do before posting, but I am very inexperienced with code and therefore don't really know how to add a batch of code to a given php, so if you could phrase your answer without a lot of jargon, that would be great.

Lol! No problem. Unfortunately, I don't have time to look at it right now, but I'll be happy to tomorrow afternoon. So, if you could, tomorrow morning, would you check the "Add Hidden Debug Info" option on the Advanced settings page?

I'll follow-up tomorrow afternoon when I have more time.

    Thanks,

    js.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I have checked that box and will keep an eye on this forum for other actions I might need to take. Talk to you later.

Sorry to bug you again but I have been losing my mind on this. Since I didn't hear back from you and it didn't matter what I did, I went ahead and installed SEO by Yoast but that didn't do any good at all. I can see that if I buy the Pro version of your plug-in, the option to manually enter a FB post title opens up, but I'm really, really new at this and have already spent quite a bit of money, and all I really want to do is make my FB links represent the title of my post. Any advice you have would be extremely helpful. I can't believe how difficult this one simple thing is becoming. My only real traffic is currently coming from my FB posts, but I don't want to waste my good contents with crap links.

Sorry about the delay -i I was helping a client move some servers yesterday, and it turned into a 16 hr marathon of debugging issues. ;-)

Ok, so this problem is fairly easy.

One of the ways NGFB Open Graph+, and pretty much any WordPress plugin and theme, gets the title for the current webpage, is by using the wp_title() function. This returns the title of the current page, and depending on some parameters, can do a little basic formatting.

Most SEO plugins, and some themes, will "hook" into wp_title() to influence what it returns. Normally this is a positive thing, but in your case, you seem to have a hook into wp_title() that makes it always return "Cult of Pedagogy". This is why, as you navigate your site, the webpage title shown in your browser tab is always the same. Normally that title should change.

Using WordPress SEO by Yoast is a good thing, and might even help fix your problem. Under Titles & Meta, try checking the "Force rewrite titles" option, and see if that helps.

The NGFB Open Graph+ Pro version allows you to define a custom title, but that would be a little tedious to do on every post / page. You're much better off fixing that wp_title() problem. ;-)

Since this is not an NGFB Open Graph+ issue, I will mark this thread as resolved, but feel free to post follow-up questions.
