[resolved] Extremely Slow Loading Issue & 500 Error (10 posts)

    Hi all,

    I'm in need of a WP guru who might take a gander at my site and see what's up. My site has only been up less than a week: http://www.josephbanh.com

    Specs:

    - Dreamhost;
    - Newest version of WP;
    - Free Modernist theme by Rodrigo Galindez;

    Issues:

    - Extremely slow loading of site and often getting the 500 error when I try to edit my site.

    What I've tried:

    - I've scanned through various forum threads and have tried disabling my Plugins;
    - I've been in touch with Dream Host and have gone through their trouble shooting which included activating the WP Cache. I also tried to use my ftp to find my error log but there wasn't an error log that I could see.

    My blog is super basic - just text and images really. Could it be issues with my content? Is my site cursed/haunted?

    Please help. Many thanks.

    best,

    Joe

    Your media loads fast (http://www.josephbanh.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/IMG_1448-150x150.jpg, whee!) but not the rendered page.

    Have you tested this on the default 2012 theme?

    I see a handful of "Premature end of script headers" in your error log, on index.php and wp-cron.php which may be related or may mean nothing :/

    Hi Mika,

    Thanks for checking. I just tried the 2012 theme and same issues. I guess I'll wait for dreamhost tech support to reply and see if they can think of anything.

    best,
    Joe

    I went and talked to someone with a bit more experience here at DH than I have, and your server was kicked.

    Is that working better now?

    LOL! Thanks Mika. It really did the trick! Then I went and re-installed the social media widget and it all went to hell again. But, I pulled out the game cartridge and blew on it and now it's all good. Thanks for the help!

    You're welcome! I'm sorry that your server was acting up, but Brandon taught me how to debug that particular issue, so I have a big stick to hit things with if it happens to anyone else!

    Hi Mika and Jospeph,
    I'm having similar problems, and wonder if you'd mind having a look at my installation.
    It's on the site http://www.doeverything.org.uk

    It's been running really slowly for the last couple of weeks, and although I've looked through the performance article, and have disabled a plugin which was apparently causing problems, I still have the same errors

    ([error] [client 90.216.204.49] Premature end of script headers: index.php, referer: http://doeverything.org.uk/wp-admin/plugins.php?deleted=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s=)

    ...and the the 500 error too.

    I'm a WordPress system admin novice, but can follow clear instructions very well!

    Any help gratefully received
    James

    Your site isn't running slowly for me (and I'm not on the fastest internet known to man today).

    I skimmed your support ticket... Do the issues go away when the plugins are turned off? It seemed like you implied that, which means that one of them is causing a problem. The real hassle is sometimes a problem is a specfic combination of plugins.

    I'd install http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/p3-profiler/ and see if anything jumps out.

    I actually went through and turned off some of the jetpack stuff that I don't need and my site loads about 30% faster.

    That's generally a good idea for anything :) Well spotted.
