I'm trying to help a friend move and update his self-hosted blog. It's presently with Yahoo, and despite being set up to (apparently) automatically update the WP software, it never has, so he's running 2.0.2 which was before any export capability was introduced.
Does anyone know a way I can get the blog into an xml file? Or some other way of porting the content across short of copying and pasting every post? I've tried Aaron Brazell's WordPress-to-Wordpress import, but it's for 2.1+ and doesn't recognise the content as a valid format.
I would just upgrade incrementally, first and then when you are at the current release and it's working, move it. You can get the older versions here:
http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/
I'd suggest going to 2.3.3, then to 2.6.5, then 2.7.1, then to the current version.
yes, figaro is correct. You can export the database, but there are so many changes from the 2.0.2 to 2.8, so there is a large possibility of getting errors.

Thanks for that suggestion. Sounds very sensible.
How do I upgrade this version? There doesn't seem to be any facility within the WP software. All my WP experience is with much later versions.

Thanks.
Sigh ... looks almost as long-winded as transferring the posts one by one ...
