I have moved a lot of content from a wordpress.com blog to a self-hosted wordpress blog over the past 6 months and never had a problem that I couldn't fix. But I am stuck. I have exported the XML file over at http://www.angiewashington.com (this is wordpress.com - Version 2.8) and now, in trying to import at http://www.scblogdesign.com/angiewashington (self-hosted - Version 2.8)
It seems like it is opening the file, rather than importing it - I never get to the "Set Authors" option - it just starts pulling up the text from the file then it locks up.
Please advise. Or fix. Fix would be good.
having the same problem. The file is either empty or is not in the correct file format. In either event its quite frustrating!
I even tried to do a data base dump from my host server, when I imported the data, the process over-rode my permalinks and crashed the plugins even though they were disabled.
--have to go old school and cut & paste post I want to move. :(
-at this point I am assuming this will get fixed after the all the bugs are fixed.

were you able to resolve this? I can't seem to import my blog from WordPress.com to my new self-hosted 2.8 WordPress site. Only like 65 out of 500 posts will import... baffled! Any ideas?

Pam: Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem as we speak and it's driving me CRAZY!
