   Hi-
   When I am exporting, am I only exporting comments?
   Do I need to be designing the site all over again on my new server or do the html and xhtmlfiles that design and set up the site also export?

   regardless I can't even get the wordpress.com exported file imported to my hosted site-

   I have read several threads about this and am having trouble - I downloaded the plug in from the sailor and installed the wordpress.php file into the import file on my server- and tried to use the import feature to import the file created when exporting from my wordpress.com site. Permissions are all set to 755 but I get this error
   Unable to create "directory /home/sevenvil/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?"
   sigh

   What version of WP are we using? If WP 2.1.x, you don't need the technosailer plugin -- the ability to import the WXR format (from wordpress.COM) is built-in.

   Does /home/sevenvil/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/04 exist? If not, why not create it and then try the import?

   Hi-
   I upgraded the wp to the most recent - 2.1 -
   I tried creating the directory, the series of directories listed in the path and I am still getting this error.

   Anyone have any suggestions?

   btw the file error ends in 04. with the dot -

   This is the latest error message:

   The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/sevenvil/public_html/sevenvil/wp-content/uploads/2007/04.
   Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/sevenvil/public_html/sevenvil/wp-admin/admin-header.php:16) in /home/sevenvil/public_html/sevenvil/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1221

   Does /home/sevenvil/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/04 exist? If not, why not create it and then try the import?

   yes - I created a directory by that name, then got this message:
   I am stuck here-
   to /home/sevenvil/public_html/sevenvil/wp-content/uploads/2007/04.

   So your next step would be to confirm that the permissions of that folder are such that your web server process can write to it.

   the latest message isn't regarding permissions, this error message is specific to a functions.php file
