Can somebody tell me what I need to do to in order to experiment with wordpress, ie I don't want the site to be live but i want to mess around with designs etc. Is there something I can download to use as 'temporary' space to see my site. Hope I make sense!!

Look through these tutorials and find one that is written in a manner that makes sense to you (and written recently)
You can install a local server environment on your computer, and then install wordpress on that. Don't worry... it's easier than it sounds.
You will then be able to experiment with wordpress using your browser and it will behave as if it were online, but it will just be on your computer

Again, Thankyou! I have now downloaded both WP & the local server stuff... I now have to connect them to each other, not succeeded with it yet! but trying to read through the links you suggested! Many thanks for your help its much appreciated. :)
