• Does Exhibit have a default folder to which it uploads its images? I’ve just used it to upload my first image. I got a msg. saying it uploaded successfully. Now I can’t find it. Also, is there a way to upload an image & have the code appear within the post edit box? Perhaps this didn’t happen because I’m using the TinyMCE wysiwyg editor?

In the image drop down list shouldn’t there be a way to find the URL location for the photo?

Usually, my photos are uploaded here: http://www.richardsilverstein.com/photos/uncategorized/ . But kershaw.jpg, the image in question, doesn’t appear to be there.

Is it possible that exhibit is uploading the images to a folder within the exhibit plugin?

I’ve been having some problems configuring my image upload path & perhaps I don’t have the correct path or image directory in my admin panel. THat may be part of the problem.

  • Exhbit should give you a little browser window beneath the writing box (after you have saved the post once) which lets you navigate your images. You also need to set the base image directory in the exhibit10.cfg file.
Try turning off you wysiwyg editor and see if it appears.

I do see that box you refer to. But it doesn’t give me the image file location (url) so I can create the link & it also doesn’t add the image to the post box (which may be the wysiwyg editor plugin’s conflict). I’ll try turning that off & see what happens.

I notice that the TinyMCE interface also has its own pretty decent image upload feature but it seems to have only one default image file location & doesn’t seem to allow you to customize that if you keep your image files in a diff. location (a drag–since it means you start having images located lots of diff. places).

What do you mean by “set the base image directory in the exhibit10.cfg.file.” How do you do this? I guess I missed this instruction if it was in the Readme file.

It might be I am using an older version of exhibit. If you open exhibit10.cfg, there are the lines
    # imagedir is the base directory where images are located
    # It must be located in your WordPress root (not your web root)
    imagedir='images'

so you need the folder ‘images’ in you WP root folder.

There are some 100+ post threads on exhibit around so I would try to find them and see if they have any extra info.

Yes, I did create the images folder in the root directory. And now, thanks to your suggestion I’ve found that image file I couldn’t find. I didn’t remember that exhibit was placing them in that folder.

I do wish you could customize where you wanted your images uploaded by exhibit though. I’ve got images uploaded to another folder as well & they must stay there because they’re mirroring the image filepaths of my previous blog & we didn’t want to break any of their paths.

You might be able to set exhibit to use the same folder. If your old pics are in WProot/somewhere/oldpics, try setting imagedir='somewhere' and see if that allows you to navigate to oldpics.

You guys are great! I am a rank newbie, and have managed to build 3 blogs problem solving through the forums & codex. But I am stuck.

I have no trouble with images as long as they are in the images-exhibit root. I have created a subdirectory through the Exhibit interface. I have checked directory permissions on the server, and they are set correctly (mimicking the parent directory).

Receive this error when trying to change to the new directory (from within Exhibit):

    Current directory: /images-exhibit/courses

‘/home/virtual/site11/fst/var/www/html/wpdemo/images-exhibit/images-exhibit/courses’ is not a valid directory on this server. Check your image directory settings in Exhibit.

You may need to create a user directory before you can use the file picker.

    Help!
